Fertility Treatment

Fertility treatment can be physically and financially demanding. Your private health insurance policy will unfortunately only cover a fraction of the cost of the fertility treatment – regardless of which provider or plan you select. However, over the last number of years, each insurer has added fertility benefits to many of their plans.

Laya Healthcare

Laya have plans that will help cover the costs of Fertility up to €3,350. There are some plans that allow members to claim the fertility benefit twice. The treatment centres Laya covers are listed below:

Laya Healthcare applies the following waiting periods for infertility treatment:

• 52 weeks for existing members who move to this plan from a plan that does not include cover for infertility
• This 52 week waiting period will be reduced if members have had this cover on a different plan.
Waiting Periods for First Steps Fertility Benefit• 104 weeks for new members
• 104 weeks for existing members who move plans to avail of this cover.

VHI Healthcare

There is a 52 week waiting period applied for maternity and fertility benefits if you are a new member or if you upgrade your plan to include these benefits. VHI will contribute towards the of fertility treatments in their approved Fertility Treatment Centers. These include:

The VHI fertility benefit includes:

  • €100 off Semen analysis and AMH testing
  • €1,000 towards two cycles of IVF or ISCI (female only)
  • €450 towards two cycles of IUI treatment (female only)
  • Counselling from specially trained fertility Counsellors
  • Contributions towards alternative therapists such as dieticians and acupuncturists

Irish Life Health

There is a 52 week waiting period applied for maternity and fertility benefits if you are a new member or if you upgrade your plan to include these benefits. Infertility claims operate on a pay and claim basis

Irish Life Health infertility benefits may include:

  • Up to €2,000 towards two cycles of IVF, IUI and ICSI.
  • 50% up to €1,000 towards egg freezing
  • 50% up to €125 once per lifetime
  • Up to €75 contribution towards ‘His & Hers Fertility Screening’
  • Mental health support
  • Contributions towards alternative therapists
